This week I had the pleasure of engaging in a brief informal interview with one of our CCD 4th grade religious education instructors. We’ve been fortunate to have had this dedicated, conscientious, very personable Senior at Kennedy Catholic Preparatory School, teaching our young students their catechesis! [Don’t you just love it when teen youth are teaching younger youth and “t’weens” about our faith? Such a great role model!]
A member of the Student Council, Eleanor Brown has also been in Fr. Vaillancourt’s Latin and AP Latin courses while at Kennedy Catholic Prep. This experience, and her internships, awakened an interest in her to pursue the Classics further as a college student. She began to dream of attending Notre Dame as a Classics major for Pre-law study, as she also had been granted an internship with a law firm in White Plains, while here and attending KCPS. Her enthusiasm over the phone was contagious, as she went on to share that while the application process for Colleges and Universities can be very stressful, she said Kennedy Catholic Prep and Fr. Vaillancourt were “amazing.”
One of 5 children, she did indeed apply to her “dream” college and she described with great joy how Fr. Vaillancourt helped her obtain interviews with Notre Dame Alumnae who offered great advice and encouragement. And Fr. Vaillancourt also saw to it that she had great letters of recommendation. She visited the campus and found it to be lovelier than she imagined. She has recently heard that she been accepted to Notre Dame, with some scholarship assistance, and will pursue The Classics with the goal of pursuing her Litigation Law degree. A big plus for her is having extended family in the immediate area, since Indiana is so far from home. She will be able to spend her free time over those short holidays that pop up each term with her cousins and Aunt and Uncle, who relocated there from NY several years ago. So God has provided a “home away from home” for her. [Very sweet!]
She had just submitted her acceptance as this photo of her and Fr. Vaillancourt, beaming with pride, was taken at the school!
A big congratulations to Eleanor from all of us here at St. Mary’s! We pray for all of God’s best, and no less than God’s best, for you!
